Class Announcements Announcements- June 11Special Notes & Reminders- June 11 - Remember to send in a white t-shirt to decorate for the Field Day activities! - Again, please save those flash cards for beginning of second grade review before we tackle all the facts to 20! - PLEASE SEE THE END OF YEAR CALENDAR THAT CAME HOME AND IS POSTED ON THIS FUSION PAGE. Language Arts- June 11 The past week we have been busy in Language Arts. Each student got a buddy from Mrs. Tekampe’s class and read a Frog and Toad book. Then, the buddies made Frog and Toad puppets and finally created their own Frog and Toad puppet show. Students practiced voice tone, expression and public speaking. We recorded the puppets shows. We will have them playing the last day of school during the pizza party. Please come and see! Next week we will be very busy so please try to follow the End of Year Calendar. During Field Day I will be available to discuss your child’s PALS scores and DRA levels. It is sometimes hard to understand what it all means. Math, Science, Social Studies & Homework- June 11 In Math we continued our geometry unit by creating a few city blocks with a variety of buildings. The students practiced drawing them and also got to play architects. We have been reviewing money and using addition and subtraction in a game called Accrue, which uses a Scrabble-like format. They wrote their own story problems based on equations, and then solved them following the 7 Steps to Solving a Story Problem. Next week we will continue to review what they have learned this year.
In Science, we watched an entertaining science video on force, motion, and friction. They the students performed an experiment with friction using a variety of objects. I was impressed with their ability to figure out why there was more friction with some objects. Videos and Podcasts Slideshows Class Files
